Fairfield by Marriott Luquillo Beach

The pool was lovely and, since it isn’t heated, just right for cooling down. Breakfast was pretty good, though it stops at 9:00 a.m. Our room was roomy, the bed was comfortable, and nights were very quiet. The front desk team were friendly and helpful, especially Alexander, the afternoon and evening manager. For our first trip to PR, we picked a wonderful hotel across the street from Luquillo Beach and an easy walk from the food kiosks. I’d recommend staying here.

My only real disappointment was breakfast: the staff kept everything replenished and what was there was decent, but there were no gluten-free choices like bread or muffins. That’s why I’m giving it four stars instead of five. I was here for two nights on business and slept well in a quiet, nicely equipped suite. The bathroom was spacious, the internet fast, and parking was ample at $17 a day. The location made it easy to get to the beach, Luquillo’s famous restaurant kiosks, and a huge grocery store. I also enjoyed a bike ride around the beach area, with bikes available to rent for free. Thanks to Naiyomi, Shadelys, and another colleague whose name I can’t recall for the warm welcome and hospitality.

The breakfast was pretty average, though enough to get the day going. I also would’ve liked coffee in the lobby throughout the day and evening. The pool area was set up nicely, and the room was clean and had what we needed. Bike rentals included two free hours, though we didn’t end up using them. We skipped the casino too, so I can’t speak to that. It’s a pleasant place in a handy location, and I’d stay again.

I pass this place every day and watched protected wetlands and beautiful forest turn into a cleared site. Local people protested passionately, but they were ignored. Now there’s a trashy hotel and casino where that nature corridor used to be. Marriott helped destroy Puerto Rico’s natural environment. Please know the history before booking.
