Mata e' Platano Guesthouse

The setting is lovely, and the nature sounds are wonderful. Breakfast was good, the customer service was helpful at first, and I really liked the idea of staying here. But the mold and mildew smell in the shipping container rooms made this a terrible fit for us. We were first assigned room #1, where the smell was obvious as soon as we arrived and got stronger when the AC was on. The staff moved us to room #8 right away, and it seemed fine at first. That night, though, the odor became so strong that neither of us could sleep. I tried covering my face with a sheet. The AC blows straight onto the bed, and there's no way to turn the unit or move the bed. With the humidity, we needed the AC to sleep, so we couldn't avoid the smell. We contacted the front desk again in the morning, but they wouldn't offer a refund. We weren't willing to try a third room and risk losing another night's sleep at the end of our vacation. Maybe the other rooms are better, but until that's confirmed and the mold and mildew issue is fixed, I can't recommend staying here.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped and well cared for, and I loved how calm it was. The pool and deck were nice too. Our room was simple and modern, with a balcony, and the bed was comfortable. It's conveniently located, and I'd absolutely stay here again. Falling asleep to the sounds of nature was lovely.

We especially loved how peaceful it was here. At night, the rainforest sounds made our stay feel lovely.

The rooms are clean, and breakfast is available in the morning. Staying in such a secluded spot right in the rainforest felt special, with the coqui frog and other nature sounds all around at night. The rooms are beautiful and unusual, and it seems like a lovely romantic place for couples.
