Caribe Playa Beach Resort

We had a nice, quiet stretch with the family. We only wanted somewhere low-key to relax, and it worked out okay for that. I stayed here a few years ago, and since it seems the same problems are still around, I figured I’d finally write this. The rooms were right by the beach, so hearing the ocean at night was a real plus. The pool was small but fine. The rooms themselves were very outdated and needed work. Food and drinks were limited and pricey, and the rate felt high for the room condition and service hours.

It’s a shame it closed after Hurricane María because it was badly damaged. I hope it opens again. It was such a lovely spot for a relaxing stay, with a great view and the shore just a couple of steps away. The rooms felt cozy, and the manager and staff were wonderful. There was also a nice little pool that was good for kids.

The evening front desk woman with curly hair explained things well, even if she wasn’t especially friendly. Most of the staff spoke English, which helped since my boyfriend doesn’t speak Spanish. But the owner was rude and hardly there, and there’s no overnight staff, so when other guests were loud outside our room, we couldn’t get help. Their voices carried through the poorly fitted door and windows, and nobody seemed to care. Staff also didn’t always lock both locks after cleaning. They moved things left on the bed, and we had to sign a form to borrow beach towels, with a $25 charge if they weren’t returned. The beach is mostly rocks at the water’s edge, and the water didn’t seem safe for swimming. Guests are expected to wear a wristband all the time so staff can identify them, even though they say they already know who’s staying there. The room wasn’t clean, paint was peeling, and the pool was dirty with nobody looking after it. The free breakfast coupons got us nothing filling or special. Dinner had to be ordered at least an hour ahead, and the food was so expensive we didn’t eat there. One night our toilet overflowed. We waited half an hour, then went back to the desk before someone came. She only wiped the toilet down, so we drove 20 minutes to a store and bought cleaning supplies ourselves. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

A cozy pool, cool hammocks, and really helpful staff. I loved this place. The waves are right outside your door, so you can fall asleep and wake up to their sound, then spend the day exploring everything else.
