The front desk staff were very nice, and the hotel is right in the middle of Ponce, within walking distance of restaurants and museums. Our king room had a balcony, a comfortable bed, a TV, and a high ceiling. The bathroom was okay, though it had an old smell, and the tiles on the stairs and in the halls need replacing. The big problem was the noise. The hotel sits on a busy street, and we could hear it inside even at midnight. It started up again around 6 a.m. The sound insulation is very poor, so we couldn’t sleep well. They also don’t provide complimentary tea or coffee in the morning. It’s an old building with updated decor, and you get what you pay for.

We had a quiet, comfortable night in a spacious second-floor room facing the interior. It had a king bed, air conditioning, and was non-smoking. The pillows, bed, and mattress were all in excellent condition and not hard. Reception staff were friendly, attentive, and informative, as they have been on our several stays over the past few years. We were in Ponce again after going to a concert at Shonstatt Church in Juana Diaz, so we stayed at Hotel Belgica. It’s downtown on Villa Street, beside Plaza Las Delicias and close to the Cathedral, other hotels, shops, restaurants, and El Paseo Atocha, the pedestrian shopping area. There are some guest parking spots in front, available first come, with no reservations. For $4.00, they offer an electric coffee maker, a puertorican coffee pouch, and other items. We had a fantastic night and rested well.

The historic building is really interesting, and it’s clear the owner and staff take pride in keeping it clean. They’re efficient and down to earth, and my dog and I felt very welcome. The bed was super comfortable, and the air conditioning looked brand new and worked great. My room was surprisingly quiet. The hotel is just around the corner from the cathedral and museum, right in the center of Ponce. I enjoyed walking to nearby coffee places in the morning, and drove to beaches and other sights nearby.

Hotel Bélgica feels like a private colonial home, with cozy interior spaces and a slower pace despite its grand exterior. I liked sitting in the lobby under the ceiling fan, and having coffee while watching pigeons in the plaza. The staff are what make the stay memorable, and the hotel combines professional service with a comfortable, home-away-from-home feeling. The hotel faces Plaza Las Delicias in Ponce’s historic district. Established in 1872, it has a Neoclassical facade, high ceilings, ironwork balconies, and pastel colors. Its old layout and antique-style decor preserve the feel of the building’s long history, and walking through the corridors feels like stepping back in time. It’s a striking place to stay if you want to experience the city’s heritage.

Hotel Bélgica made a great base for Ponce. It’s affordable, comfortable, and close enough to walk around the city. The staff were warm and helpful from check-in through check-out. The shower had seriously good water pressure, which felt great after a day out. I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. There’s plenty to eat nearby. Gallo Espresso is just around the corner, with excellent coffee and most baked goods made in-house. The cinnamon roll was next level. Vistas has a view over the city and good food too. I really liked the house signature Vistas pasta and penne meat lovers, both with generous portions and bold flavors. Libre Pizza was another highlight, easily one of the top three pizzas I’ve had in Puerto Rico. There’s usually a wait. The area felt fine during the day but a little sketchy at night, so I called the hotel and got a taxi back to my room without any trouble. The staff came through again. Parque de Bombas is also within walking distance. We even caught a live Bomba performance during check-out, a fun way to end the stay.
