Avila Guesthouse

The smell of cleaning products and “air freshener” (fabuloso) was so strong it made me nauseous. It seemed like they were using the scent to distract from how dirty the place was. There were bugs too. The air conditioner was broken, and it took them three hours to come up with a solution. This place is horrendous. Don’t stay here.

The apartment was very nice, with cooking amenities. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the beaches and close to food stores and restaurants.

The staff were friendly and quick to respond, and the sofa bed was comfortable enough for a smaller person. Still, there were several problems: the main door wouldn't lock from inside, the bathroom door had no lock, and the AC leaked when we tried to switch it off. With no bathroom exhaust, the room felt stuffy. We could also hear all the construction outside because the place wasn't properly insulated. Our stay was decent, but I'd only suggest it if you're on a tight budget or short on alternatives.

Being close to La placentia was a real plus, with fresh produce at the market and plenty of music, restaurants, and nightlife nearby. The accommodations felt brand new, with a huge bathroom and a full kitchen. This place was such a great find, and easily my favorite stay in Puerto Rico.
