I stayed at Hotel Normandie about 30 years ago. Back then it had a good restaurant and a stylish bar, and the parking was scarce. The architectural idea is lovely, like an ocean liner, and it’s in a great location. It was already in need of a thorough renovation when I visited. The place has an interesting history, but it would take considerable investment and new management to make it a worthwhile vacation destination.

Like any vintage vehicle, it needs some work.

The name sounded enchanting, but there was nobody at the front desk, no A/C, and parking was a disaster.
