The Wave Hotel

The towels and sheets were stained, and they wouldn’t clean the room daily, even when we asked. The hotel was dirty, there was no breakfast or pool, and the hot tub was closed. We were told the roof level was under construction, but it was open. They turned off the water for several hours for repairs without telling us ahead of time. The phone number doesn’t work, and there isn’t a phone in the room to call the desk. The A/C was loud and barely cooled the room.

Apart from the lobby, I wouldn’t spend my money here again. It’s called a boutique hotel and priced that way, but there are much nicer places with just as good a location for a lot less than the Wave hotel charges. I’m surprised IHG and the Garner family took this hotel on, because it really isn’t up to par. We stayed one night before our vacation. Check-in wasn’t allowed until 4:00 p.m., regardless of whether the room was clean already. When we got into ours after 4:00, the shower wouldn’t even turn on. If the room had been cleaned properly, the maid would have noticed while rinsing the shower. I brought it to management’s attention, but was told no other rooms were available. I said I was going out and that they needed to have something sorted by the time I got back.

The staff made a great impression from check-in through checkout. Every person I dealt with seemed to care about me and how my stay was going. The roof lounge was unusual and interesting: take the elevator to the seventh floor, go through the glass door on the left, then climb the stairs. There’s no other way up, so it won’t work if you can’t manage stairs. The front desk has towels. When I visited, the hot tub was running, but there weren’t any loungers set up. The room was very cramped, almost like a European dorm room, and showed its age despite a fresh coat of paint. It felt stuffy, and the smell lingered for about a day. I couldn’t get fresh air in, so I could only run the A/C fan on high and close the curtains. The bed seemed more like a queen than a king, and the TV remotes didn’t work. I could still change channels using the buttons on the DirectTV unit.

It was a basic room with a bed, TV, and bathroom, and the hotel had basic amenities. We couldn’t find parking there, so we used a lot around the corner for $25. The rooftop lounge and hot tub were closed because of renovations. The stay wasn’t bad, but getting there and finding a place to park were both difficult.
