The rooms were clean, and that's about all this place has going for it. The pool in the main Love Holidays photo belongs to the hotel opposite, and lots of guests were unhappy with the actual pool here. Its bar is basically a garden shed, open from 12 to 4. On arrival we had to pay a €300 damage deposit in cash, stapled into an A4 sheet until the room was inspected at checkout. There were lots of stag and hen groups, who were great and not really an issue. One person lost the whole deposit after using a face towel as a shower floor towel by mistake. When our group collected our deposits, each sealed one was short by €20-50, though we got the missing money back. It all felt very dodgy. This isn't a four-star hotel, even by Portugal's standards, and it's misadvertised and sketchy. Wouldn't recommend it.

The manager was the one bright spot: lovely, professional and genuinely helpful. They explained the facilities and arranged to have a phone put in our room. We'd found the phone listed in the room booklet, but there wasn't one there, and our key cards also stopped working four separate times. Check-in was disorganized too, with a 20-minute delay while the receptionist tried to work out whether we'd already been given a key. No one told us about the hotel's facilities when we arrived. The noise was the biggest problem. It was loud throughout our stay, and even after we complained several times and staff visited the rooms causing the disturbance, nothing changed. We barely slept, our health suffered, and one person in our group cut their holiday short and went home. The bar closed early, had no music or TV, and there was no entertainment. Despite the manager's effort, the lack of organization, repeated key card problems, noise and limited facilities made this a very poor stay. I wouldn't come back to Luna Hotel da Oura.

The cleaners were friendly and efficient, and checkout was quick. They inspected the room and returned our deposit without a problem. The rest of the stay was a letdown. Reception was extremely rude, and on arrival they demanded a €300 cash deposit for possible damage or missing towels. We had to sign a form agreeing to it or we couldn't stay. That was nearly all our spending money for food and drinks, and it left us worrying they'd keep it. There was a cockroach on the sink, the room looked very dated, the shower swung between hot and cold every few seconds, and the balcony door was hard to open. We were afraid it might break and cost us the deposit. And don't get breakfast. It was the most disgusting I've ever had: terrible sausages, burnt spam-like bacon, slimy eggs and fruit that tasted a bit furry. We ate there once, then went to a local bar instead. It was our first time in Portugal, and the town was gorgeous. Shame the hotel dampened the trip. Reception staff could learn from the cleaners and waiters.

The rooms were clean and well arranged, but felt dated and didn't have enough sockets or places to charge devices. Pool towels should be free at a hotel of this category. Breakfast also disappointed us: we expected something reflecting local food and culture, but it was mostly geared toward English breakfast tastes. We were also frustrated by inconsistent information from reception, and generally found the staff unfriendly and unwelcoming. For somewhere advertised as four-star, the service and facilities fell well short of what we expected. I hope they take the feedback seriously and improve things for future guests.

The lobby looked lovely, with a beautiful water feature, and we were impressed at first. We stayed three nights in March 2026, but the room and bathroom were very dated. The kitchenette had dishes and pans, though only one dish towel and no sponge or soap. There was an electric kettle, but no coffee, tea or coffee maker. The shower had a wall-mounted pump bottle of liquid soap, while the sink had body and hair wash. To get shampoo, you had to leave the shower. We asked twice to have the bottles switched, though I suspect they contained the same product. Laundry machines were available, with wash and dry coins from reception costing €5 each. It's on a busy street with lots of nearby bars if that's your scene. When we asked staff what we could walk to nearby, they just handed us tour brochures, which wasn't much help.
