Hotel Monicca Collection Suites & Residences

That view is the one decent thing about this gaudy, cheesy hotel with its cheap cruise ship feel. At arrival, nobody acknowledged us. There was just one person at reception, who didn’t even say she’d be with us soon. Eventually we were checked in, but getting up to the room took two trips because the elevator was tiny, like a broom closet. The balcony doors wouldn’t lock properly, and neighboring rooms were easy to reach over a low wall, so we didn’t feel safe. There was no security lock on the front door either. A strong person could probably have forced it with a hard shove. It calls itself a resort, but that felt like a rip-off. It claims to have eight “restaurants,” yet the bars we wanted to visit were closed during our stay. For a “4 Star Resort,” there’s no room service or laundry service. If a cheap, drunken cruise experience is what you want, this might suit you. For nice amenities, room and laundry service, and clean, safe accommodation, look elsewhere.

We had a great stay, and the hotel is near the ocean, restaurants serving international food, and supermarkets. The staff were helpful and ready to answer questions. Breakfast at Jacqs restaurant was really nice, with a good variety of food. The sausages were pork only, though, so beef ones would be helpful for people who don’t eat pork. I did run into two problems that never got resolved. The TV showed “no signal.” Someone came to look, said he needed to speak with colleagues, and didn’t come back. Also, the hotel doesn’t have a spa, gym, or indoor pool, so guests are directed to another hotel. When I went to the main hotel gym, reception wouldn’t give me a key and sent me back to Monica hotel, saying Monica hotel guests had to pay extra. On my check-in day, I’d been told guests could use the gym for free. I raised it twice with different people at Monica hotel reception and gave them my room number; they said they’d fix it, but it still wasn’t sorted.

Sumit and Stefan deserve a big raise for how kind, considerate, and helpful they were. Our trip had a small hiccup at the start, but after that the staff took great care of us. My partner and I were lucky to experience such good people and service at MGM. We skipped breakfast, but the location is wonderfully connected to restaurants, grocery stores, nightlife, and more. When I come back to Portugal, this is the only place I’m staying. You guys should open more resorts across the country! 10/10 ☀️🥂

Roger and his staff made our stay at Monicca Suites so memorable. They were warm and welcoming, and nothing we asked for felt like too much trouble. They even left wine and fresh fruit in the suite, then brought a lovely cake for my birthday. Housekeeping kept the room clean all week and offered daily turndown service. My partner, our baby, and I had a wonderful holiday. We’d originally booked somewhere else, but were disappointed with that hotel and luckily managed to get the last available suite at Monicca. It was clean, nicely presented, and had a lovely sea view. We can’t wait to return 😀
