This is a hidden gem. On arrival we were met by peaceful surroundings, lovely views, vineyards, and authentic Portuguese-style houses. The place is so beautiful and unusual that our jaws dropped. Rita, the owner, made us feel welcome. It’s still close to town, with good food and hiking trails. We told Rita we were vegetarian, and every morning there was a feast: fresh croissants and rolls, cheese, eggs, yogurt, granola, fruit, juice, milk, tea, coffee, and all the extras. We were also welcomed with a complimentary bottle of delicious local red wine and fresh fruit. There’s a large pool on the property, though we didn’t use it. We can’t say enough about how lovely our stay was. We wish we’d had more time and hope to return one day soon. Thank you, Rita, for your hospitality, kindness, and for pampering us. You’d do very well to choose this family Quinta.

The buffet breakfast was quite good, though it was continental only, with no hot food. The location was awful for us: the place is hidden in the hills, about a 17-minute drive from Amarante, and you’d need an excellent GPS to find it. It is very quiet there. Our room was extremely dark, making it impossible to read a book, and the owner’s photos of the interiors are deceptive. The owner seemed completely uncaring about guests and wouldn’t even say hello or acknowledge us. Bizarre. This was our worst lodging experience in Portugal, and it was totally overpriced.

Maybe the best holiday of my life, up there with sailing in Corsica and backpacking in western China and Thailand. I booked the dirt bike package with Offtrack, which was an amazing way to see the region. The landscapes were breathtaking, a real gem in the Douro. The team went the extra mile to make the whole experience great, even picking me up from the airport. Home-cooked food was delicious, and the hospitality felt truly Portuguese. Perfect recovery from city life ;P

We had a fantastic stay in a beautiful, quiet area, which had only just reopened after the pandemic. The pool has amazing views, and our hosts were so nice and made us feel at home.
