Quinta da Barroca

The indoor and outdoor pools were perfect for unwinding, and the facilities were just what we hoped for. We spent two magical days at Quinta da Barroca, enjoying its beautiful grounds and exploring the spectacular Douro valley. Our room had everything we needed, looked lovely, and came with stunning countryside views. Highly recommend it for a peaceful getaway in this beautiful area.

It's a great place for a quiet break, with good restaurants nearby, though you can also bring cheese and a bottle of wine for a laid-back evening outside the room. We were there during apple season and could pick apples by hand, which was a lovely experience for someone from a city. The indoor pool is heated and very warm. There's covered parking, the staff are great, and a happy house cat hangs out outside. The hotel is amazing, right in the middle of nowhere.

We loved our stay so much that we added two nights. Our apartment suite had a beautiful vineyard view and a comfortable, elegant feel, while the outdoor pool and restaurant made for relaxing time and good food in peaceful surroundings. The staff, from waiters to management, were professional and kind, and made sure we were comfortable. A special moment was our sunset picnic among the vines, where we picked fruit from the domaine's fields ourselves. Quinta da Barroca Vineyard Domaine gave us wonderful hospitality and a memorable wine country getaway. Highly recommended.

The setting is beautiful, but this venue was completely incompetent at hosting a wedding. The service was the worst and most chaotic I've experienced at one. The outside ceremony nearly started without water, and when I asked Ines, the wedding planner, for more, she gave me a look and walked away. She'd printed the wrong table plan, then changed numbers on the entrance board with a marker, which caused confusion as people tried to find their seats. Food arrived cold, some guests got none, and we had to chase repeatedly for wine and water at our table. The bar staff didn't know how to make basic drinks, and one woman had to ask her boss how to pour a gin and tonic. The food itself was far below standard and nothing like the dishes the bride and groom had been shown at their tasting. Vegetarian options weren't available, and the serving staff said the kitchen didn't even have ingredients for one of the listed courses. Ines was no help and was rude throughout, seeming as though the wedding was an inconvenience. Her grumpy expression didn't help on the day. The bride had said beforehand that Ines was unhelpful and unresponsive, which added stress to what should have been the happiest day of their lives. Even some outside vendors remarked on how poor the service was, and they see weddings almost every day. The place might be pretty for a quiet weekend, but based on this, it shouldn't be hosting weddings.
