Quinta do Tedo

The staff were reluctant to help and came across as rude. We were the only people in the tasting room apart from a parent and child playing with wine corks in a tub, and we felt unwelcome. For €35 to €63 per person, a simple tasting without a tour didn't seem worth it in that setting. Our guest house had suggested Quinta do Tedo for a tasting. The experience left us disappointed.

The hotel and shop have an incredible view, and the olive oil tasted so fresh. I didn't do the wine tasting because it was more expensive than at other places. The staff were helpful, and it was a very nice experience.

The wine samples were good, but at 35 euro per person the whole thing felt nothing like what we expected. It was described as a one-hour property tour with a tasting, yet the tour lasted about 10-15 minutes, covered two rooms in the same building, and repeated the same explanation. After that, we sat down for five wine and port samples. For the price and time, I wouldn't recommend it. Go try somewhere else.

Meeting Kay Bouchard, one of the owners, was a highlight. She came over to welcome us and invited us to join the traditional foot-treading, and her warmth made the visit unforgettable. Even with the winery busy, the staff seated us separately for a private tasting, which felt personal. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly cared about their craft. Quinta do Tedo focuses on red wines and Ports, and everything we tried was exceptional, from the rich Reserve reds to the rosé Port and the beautifully aged 30-year-old tawny. The place brings together quality, history, and real kindness. An absolute must-visit in the Douro Valley.
