Even in heavy off-season rain, this is a pleasant place to stay, and it’s close to Arouca. The staff are warm and look after whatever you need. Breakfast was amazing, better than what I’ve had at many big-chain four-star hotels. The pool looks like it would be lovely in summer. The property itself is pretty, with a rustic, almost industrial-chic look that sometimes leaves you wondering whether it was intentional. There are various bugs around. Getting in is the main drawback: the road is so narrow that two cars can’t pass, which can make reversing tricky, and the entrance gate sits on a steep, slippery cobbled slope. Low or exotic cars probably won’t find it easy. I haven’t stayed at other places nearby, but I think most people would be happy here at Quinta do Pomar Maior. A few small changes could make it the perfect Alojamento Local. We booked through Booking in March 2024.

I can only comment on the reservation service, not the hotel or its facilities. We paid the requested deposit by bank transfer, then had to cancel within the allowed period. The hotel agreed to return our money, but months passed without the refund and our messages went unanswered. They finally paid after we filed a formal complaint last week. We appreciate getting the money back, though we wish it had happened when they first said it would.

We stayed in February 2020, and I slept well enough for the first time ever. It was so peaceful and happy there. The staff were friendly, really helpful, and the service was top notch. I loved all the details, from the decor and cutlery to the whole atmosphere. Just about everything felt perfect. Thank you so, so much!

The rooms are excellent, and the decoration is fantastic. The architecture feels new but still fits the rural setting. Everyone was lovely and very helpful, and you can even pick your own fruit. The swimming pool is good too. One of the best places I’ve stayed in Portugal, and the best place to stay in Arouca.

The view and surrounding nature are amazing, and I really love the Quinta’s architecture. It’s the most beautiful place I’ve visited in Portugal. There’s lots to see and do around Arouca, so I’ll definitely come back.
