Maraveiro

We’re staying here now, and it’s a lovely place right by the canal in the middle of everything. We chose the double room option. Just keep in mind that the second bedroom has no door, which could be a problem for a longer stay. The girl who checked us in was very nice and gave us lots of ideas for things to do. There’s a lovely Italian restaurant downstairs in the building, a pizza pizza place next door, and loads of restaurants and bars within a 15-minute walk, most of them within five minutes. Aveiro is beautiful. Enjoy your stay.

The kitchen was missing basic things, even a chef’s knife. And although there was a sign saying towels left on the floor would be replaced, nothing else was serviced during our three-night stay. We asked for more toilet paper and for the garbage to be taken out, and they did that, but no cleaning or restocking beyond those requests. We also found the layout misleading. It wasn’t a two-bedroom place: there was one bedroom and two beds in the hallway. With two small kids, that made for a very different stay. We had to whisper all evening.

Good value, and the location is great, right by the canals in Aveiro, the Venice of Portugal. Gondola trips start on the street below and return to the same spot.

A beautiful, brand-new apartment in a really central spot.
