Hostel Pia do Urso

For us, this was the best stay in Portugal so far. Go visit, or better yet, stay there. I won't spoil anything else, just make your own picture of it!

The setting is old, but the architecture is modern, and it's a fantastic place. You should have a great time.

The only drawback for me is the kitchen-use fee. That's unusual for a hostel and takes away some of the benefit of staying in one. The fee isn't listed on the website, though it's explained in the welcome email. Otherwise, this is a very pleasant, modern space beside an old mountain village, and the service is lovely. It's a good base for exploring Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, or for enjoying the pool in summer. The double rooms are spacious, bright with natural light, and have air conditioning. A real plus is that it's pet friendly. The Hostel is in an old primary school.

The family room was just right for us, with plenty of space, cleanliness, and lovely natural light. The water was nice and warm, and we were welcomed very pleasantly. We really liked the place. Thank you.
