Braga Historic Center Hostel

We got there about 15 minutes before check-in ended, but the door was shut. We called and rang the bell over and over, with no answer. At 21:00, a man came out and said the boss was away, there was nothing anyone could do, and we should go walk around. We contacted Booking, and they refunded almost everything. We then had to book another nearby hotel without knowing whether that cost would also be refunded. The hostel washed its hands of the whole thing. This was the first time anything like this had happened to me. If you can pay a little more, it's better to book somewhere else.

Finding this place at the last minute worked out well, and we even chose to stay another night. The location is great, and the common areas are relaxing. The room was simple. We booked through Hostelworld for 3€ and paid another 20.40€ in cash when we arrived. Elvis was good-natured and friendly, which made up for him not speaking much English.

They make you feel like one of their own, and might take you out partying too 😉 The hosts are perfect, and the location is hard to beat. Definitely one of the best hostels out there. Don’t miss it if you’re in Braga!

The room had no heating, lockers, or windows, and there wasn’t even a door to give us privacy. Dust was everywhere, and I’m allergic to it, so now I’m sick. At night it was so cold we slept in two sweaters. The bathroom was disgusting and not clean at all. We asked for four towels and got only three, all torn and in poor shape. The sheets were thin and damaged, which was especially unpleasant in winter. We’d booked Braga Historic Center Hotel through Booking.com, but the man who met us said they had no space at the hostel because of “covid restrictions.” That didn’t make sense to us since we already had a reservation. They sent us to Dans L’Atelier, which has the same owner but not the same services. When we got there, we waited half an hour for that same man to come back and open the hostel, then another hour for our room to be prepared. We were put in a room with hostel staff, which seemed to be because they had nowhere else to put us. We waited yet another hour to get keys so we could get back in later. There was no breakfast, although Braga Historic Center Hostel had said there would be, and that was one reason we chose it. The first night someone rang the doorbell for an hour and a half trying to get in, but nobody answered. There was no proper check-in or check-out either. I’d never recommend Braga Historic Center Hostel, the place we booked but never even got to see. Worst experience.
