Casa Do Avô Faidoca

For a real Pico village experience, this is a lovely place. D. Adelina is an excellent host, and the authentic-looking house is spotless and in mint condition. Lovely view!

The location is great, with a beautiful view, and it’s quiet apart from the very loud birds at night. There’s a shop just 25 meters from the house. Still, this was a very poor experience. The beds were horrible, the road there is tough, and the rating doesn’t reflect what we found. We booked Casa Do Avô Faidoca for 8th to 12th July, but ended up in Adego instead. There are two houses, Adego and Faidoca, and the mismatch with our reservation was confusing. Check-in instructions weren’t clear until I called Adelina on the day we arrived. She then explained what to do and said she couldn’t meet us. The phone conversation was hard to understand, and she told us to go to the hotel, where the keys would be on the door. A man met us there, but his English was limited, so we were fortunate to speak French. Adego fell well below what I expected from such a highly rated hotel. It didn’t feel clean: the bathroom was dirty and smelled awful throughout our stay, and the showerhead was broken. There was dust, cobwebs, dead bugs, dirt, and ants in the kitchen, as if it hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time. The curtains were full of holes, too. After we left, nobody contacted us with checkout details. We were still supposed to pay an amount in cash, but no one was around to take it.

Just perfect.
