The view is great and the house looks lovely from outside, which makes it such a shame that our stay was so disappointing. It smelled like a campfire indoors, there were ants, flies, and hundreds of black worms everywhere even with the doors and windows closed, and the place was unclean. The bed was terrible, and the pool isn’t heated. A construction company next door worked all day. You can’t walk anywhere from here because the hill is so steep, so you need a car even to reach a supermarket. It’s also very windy up there. I’d definitely recommend staying closer to sea level instead.

That ocean view from the seat in front of the house is fantastic. We loved watching the changing weather and clouds, and the pool was just right for cooling off after a long walk. The road is steep and narrow, and getting into the driveway takes some skill and courage. There was also some creeping life inside the house, so perhaps cleaning more often would help. We enjoyed Madeira’s mild climate.

The terrace has a fantastic view, and the cottage sits in a beautiful spot with a pool. It’s not luxurious, but it has everything you need for a week.
