Pousada Farol do Portinho

We had fresh fish in a laid-back place that felt like a family dinner. The locals seemed to know one another, and nobody hurried us out. The food was fresh and very reasonably priced. Delicious, and I’d highly recommend it.

The cod was so tasty, and the prices felt extremely affordable for what we got. It’s a cosy, charming place too, with really nice and helpful staff. Definitely somewhere I’d come back to.

We left before ordering mains because the service was so bad. The waiter said beer wasn’t available, then tried to sell us overpriced wine, even though I’d seen beer on another table. I asked again, but it never came. Prawns and cheese arrived that we hadn’t ordered; when we sent them back, he basically growled at us. He kept pushing a dish we didn’t want, so we walked out feeling we’d dodged a bullet. There are plenty of good restaurants in town.

We ordered three menu del dia meals at 10 euros each, so the total should have been 30 euros. They brought prawns, butter, bread and dessert without asking, telling us to eat, then charged those items separately and wanted 50 euros. We refused to pay that amount, and they held my one-year-old daughter and pregnant wife hostage until we paid 50 euros. Be aware, this restaurant cheats with the bill.
