We rented the place for two weeks in late November, when it rained a lot. The old house leaked: each time it rained, water pooled on the ground floor living room floor and in the kitchen, coming through an old, unused chimney. It left the place damp and smelling unpleasant. In a few spots, wallpaper was peeling away and mould was visible underneath. If we’d known about these problems, we wouldn’t have rented it. I’m not trying to be malicious, lady. If I were, I’d have posted more photos showing the house’s poor condition and the mould on the walls. I’m just describing what happened. Mould is very unhealthy, so anyone thinking of renting here should know about these issues.

There are three separate entrances and three accommodation units, so it’s set up for three groups. One detail to know: although the listing mentions an ocean view, House B has no view from inside. You can see the ocean from the terrace, but you have to walk around the house to reach it, with no direct access. That’s inconvenient in wind or rain. There isn’t much storage, either. The house has relatively few wardrobes and clothes hangers, which would be awkward for a longer stay. That’s all I can fault. Otherwise, the accommodation was great. Each unit has its own parking spot, and the keys are in a code box, so arrival isn’t tied to a set time. Cleaning was regular and exemplary, even over Christmas. Unit B has a washing machine, and I think I saw one in Unit A too. We liked our stay overall. For the price range, I think it’s the best option in Sao Miguel.
