Carcavelos Beach Hostel

A chill, welcoming place near the coast in Carcavelos, with the beach just a short walk away. Prices are very reasonable for the accommodation. A solid choice for surfers or anyone wanting to stay by the coast!

This was the worst experience of my life, like a horror movie. One of my roommates was aggressive and punched and kicked me in the face for no reason. I told the management, but they couldn’t understand me and didn’t believe me. I spent two days and nights sleeping on the street outside the hostel, and nobody cared. I ended up in the hospital with a “brain something” and broken rips. I’ll do everything I can to get this dangerous guy arrested, and this hostel must be closed!!!

The owner was very unfriendly and refused to refund the night we lost, though the staff were friendly and did their jobs well. We’d told the owner days in advance that we’d arrive late, but nobody opened the door when we got there, so we had to spend the night outside. The hostel is also in poor condition. There was black mold on cutting boards, blankets, and pillows, and the sheets were paper-thin. The Ikea furniture was old and warped. The toilets were clean, but their physical condition was catastrophic. Of three showers, one only had cold water, another had a little hot water but no pressure, and just one worked normally. The common room had murals that were half tasteful and cute decorations that gave it a somewhat cozy feel, as if more care had once gone into the place. Bummer! I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here. Everything apart from the staff was terrible.

I stayed two nights in a private double room. It was simple but nice. The bathrooms are shared by all the guests and get cleaned regularly, and there’s a shared kitchen you can use. There’s a pool, though I didn’t try it since the beach is only three minutes away. The staff were kind and helpful. I left my ID card behind after checkout, and they mailed it to my home in another country for free. : )
