The accommodation was a letdown, although the apartment buildings looked pleasant from outside and the landscaping was nice. We also played a round at Gramacho Golf, which was well maintained. I booked apartment 302B through the ‘WEBSITE2025’ promotion. The website described it as a recently renovated two-bedroom unit and showed pictures. When we arrived on April 6, the receptionist said 302B was occupied and assigned us a different apartment, explaining that head office handled room assignments. I said I wanted a renovated unit, and she asked us to look at the apartment first. It was shocking: the toilet was broken, and the shower had years of dirt and stains. I took photos and showed them to reception. She asked us to return at 3 pm, saying she'd find another apartment. When we came back, she said it was Sunday, there were no cleaners, and there was nothing she could do if we disliked the second apartment either. We were exhausted after flying from North America, so we stayed in the second unit despite finding it unacceptable. The kitchen was so greasy and grimy that we had to clean the counter and dishes the next morning. The bathroom was worse. The floor kept getting soaked after showers, even though we were careful. At first we blamed each other, but it got wet again while we were brushing our teeth. The master bathroom baseboard also showed signs of water damage. We used towels to dry the floor and endured three nights in a dirty, wet environment. At checkout, we told the receptionist about the floor and said we thought water was seeping up from below the tiles. She said she'd make a note. She also said we could have switched rooms again the next day, but we were on vacation with golf and sightseeing plans and couldn't keep packing and unpacking. Besides, when she offered the second apartment, she'd made clear that little could be done.

The receptionist was rude and nearly let someone else go ahead of me. I was only discussing things for 30 seconds when she interrupted, rushed me, and said we had to pay then. I paid, but I wasn't happy with her attitude.

Gramacho Golf Course was excellent, and we enjoyed the clubhouse food. The bar staff were friendly and added to the atmosphere, but those good points didn't make up for the rest of our stay at Pestana Golf Resort Carvoeiro. We were a group of 12 women and booked through Golf Breaks over a year ahead, with specific requests for two neighbouring villas, each sleeping six, and twin room setups. Instead, we were placed on opposite sides of the golf course. Several beds were doubles that couldn't be split, and not everyone was happy with that. The only alternative offered was a cot bed, which felt wholly inappropriate given the trip's cost and how early we'd booked. Villa 199, a V3, was run down, with miscellaneous things stuffed in cupboards. It slept six but had only four sunbeds. We were told more would be brought, but they never arrived. The other half of our group was moved to a V4 as an “upgrade,” reportedly because the resort was fully booked, which raises questions about overbooking when we had reserved so far in advance. The V4 was better, but there were ants in one sofa and a smashed patio door. Being so far apart also left the group feeling disconnected. Our golf day at Pinta de Vale had problems too. A resort mistake with the transfers delayed our tee time, and the scheduled transfers had stopped by 4pm when we finished. Staff first suggested we order an Uber for 12 people and 10 sets of golf clubs, which wasn't practical at all. We waited over an hour and asked for a manager before a transfer was finally arranged. The stay fell far short because of poor organisation, accommodation below standard, and ineffective customer service. Despite the few highlights, I can't recommend Pestana Golf Resort Carvoeiro.

The courses were good, though the greens were tricky. Don't rent the golf clubs: I hit a ball off the first tee and the clubhead broke. We all saw the driver who delivered the clubs take them out of the van, yet they charged us £60.

Pretty cool place. The rooms are great, townhouse style. Breakfast is by the golf course with a nice view, though it's about a 5 minute drive from the townhouses.
