Pierre & Vacances Residence Rocha Brava Village Resort

The rooms vary, but ours seemed somewhere between okay and good. The resort is spacious and well placed between pretty coves and cliff walks. The outdoor pools are nice, and the indoor pool was the warmest we’ve ever tried.

We were four in a roomy two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with adequate facilities and a well-equipped kitchen. The outside space was perfect. When the toaster broke, a replacement arrived very quickly. The shower door was missing a bit and leaked, but we managed. There are three outdoor pools and one indoor pool, along with tennis courts, mini golf and table tennis. The gardens are beautiful and well kept. A free transfer bus to Carvoeiro needs to be booked in advance at reception, and Uber was very handy. Reception can get very busy, though the staff are helpful and efficient.

The apartment was such a lovely surprise, far bigger than we expected. It felt a bit outdated and could use some paint and freshening up, but that didn’t bother us. We had fun figuring things out as we explored it. The location and views were stunning. We visited two of the three pools, with plenty of loungers in different spots. Everything was clean and well maintained. Staff throughout the resort were friendly and helpful. Gary, who sits outside the little shop, was a gem. He had all kinds of useful information, from directions and places to visit to walking routes, shopping, and the best days and times to go. He was lovely to talk to, and we booked some activities through him. I’d recommend doing that if you have particular activities in mind. Our main disappointment was how a few parents handled their children at the pool. Most days security dealt with bad behavior, but there were a few times they didn’t, which is understandable when it gets busy. One family disrupted our pool time several times. Their three children, probably around seven to eleven, kept climbing and jumping where they shouldn’t, nearly falling onto an elderly woman swimming. They also played with the hose and soaked me, my book and other things, then kicked a football at me several times. It wasn’t the resort’s fault, but when guests upset or endanger others, I think there should be one warning and then they should have to leave. The rules on floats and saving beds also need more enforcement. We saw towels left on beds for hours while people were away, leaving others with nowhere to sit. A towel on one or two beds might be understandable, but some people reserved as many as six and disappeared for half the day. If guests followed the rules, it wouldn’t be an issue. Even with that, it was a wonderful, relaxing holiday. We met lovely people, enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. Thanks to everyone 🩷🩷
