Kavia Hotel do Largo

The hotel’s in a great location, and the rooms were fine for the price, but the nightclub and bar music went on until 3 a.m. They provide earplugs in the rooms, which tells you something, but they didn’t help. We were even told ours was one of the “calmer” rooms. Very, very noisy at night. This feels like a party spot, not somewhere for a family trip or a relaxing weekend. Not for us.

The staff were nice and friendly, and the rooms were basic but clean and tidy. Breakfast was below average, though, and the rooms have no soundproofing. There are loud bars and restaurants right next door, along with two strip clubs. Music from the adjacent wine bar’s live DJ comes through loud speakers until 2 a.m., so don’t expect to sleep before then. The location is very convenient for walking and getting to the beach, but that’s the main thing it has going for it. It does the job, but it’s underwhelming, and to me it’s clearly a two- or three-star hotel. The noise is the main reason for my two-star rating.

We had a very clean, spacious and comfortable room at Hotel Kavia. The location and the room were good, but some things fell short. We couldn’t stream from our devices to the TV as expected, and the receptionist couldn’t help us get it working. Most staff were friendly, though one person was needlessly rude and unhelpful. For the price, I’d expected a mini fridge and a safe, but neither was there. Our corner room was right above the restaurant, where loud music played until 2 a.m. It really sounded as if it was inside the room. We’re young and could stay up until it stopped, but if you want peace and quiet, this isn’t the place.

The room was in awful shape, with old furnishings and a broken shower door covered by a piece of cloth. Across from the hotel, a bar played music all night so loudly that the furniture shook, even with the windows closed. The staff wouldn’t do anything and acted as if they couldn’t understand English or Portuguese. Guests who couldn’t sleep were sitting in the lobby downstairs. Avoid this place if you’re hoping to get any rest.
