Santa Maria House

Staying in a medieval house with an updated interior was a great experience. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for a long stay, and the owner was kind and responded quickly when we asked for fans. We loved our short visit to Castelo Branco, thank you. Still, without air conditioning, the heat made things hard. Opening the windows brought in some breeze, but the streetlight right outside made the room bright in the middle of the night, as the picture shows. Noise and cigarette smoke from a small social club a few houses away came into the bedroom. The street is so narrow that pedestrians and cars can't easily pass each other, and with the window open the traffic felt right beside the bed. I understand installing air conditioning in an old building is difficult, though it might be possible on the roof. It would make this house a little gem in this old part of town.
