Guest House Sabores da Beira

I stopped in for lunch on my way to Spain. The pork cheek and wine were great, and the mousse was delicious. Maybe it was because it was Valentine’s Day, but the place was packed.

The mountain views were lovely. We ordered the daily specials for the family, and everything came out quickly, fresh and tasty. There were six specials, including coffee and dessert. We visited for lunch.

The good points were easy parking, friendly staff and cheap prices. But we were recommended this place, went once and won’t return. There was food trampled between the tiles, maybe left since lunch or even earlier, and ants were feasting on it. Fortunately, we arrived early and found a table without ants. I ordered the mixed meat meal and got one pork sausage, a rasher of belly pork and one cutlet. There were lots of other meats on the menu, so I expected more variety. The salad seemed fresh, but the fries were just roughly cut potatoes trying to pass as chips. Supermarket frozen chips would have been better. The glasses were dirty or not washed properly, and the bread was so hard it could hammer in nails. I guess you get what you pay for.

The first time I tried the food, it was delicious. The second visit was a real letdown. I ordered Thai chicken, but it was mostly carrots, and the flavor disappointed me.
