Aquae Flaviae - Premium Chaves

The lobby is bright, spacious, and clean, and it gives a great first impression. It’s in a good location, and the pool is small but pleasant, though the shades over the sunbeds need maintenance. I booked four rooms for two birthday celebrations and told the hotel, but there wasn’t even a simple birthday message. The rooms were average and clean, but some bathrooms smelled bad, and the showers drained so slowly that water flooded the floor. Some of the odd details people mention in online reviews were true: room numbers printed on paper, cardboard water cups, too few toiletries, and some guests without towels. Breakfast was frankly poor, with low-quality fruit, little variety, one coffee machine, and trays left empty without being refilled. The gloomy games room had a strange smell. At night we waited more than 30 minutes just to order a drink at the bar, which was frustrating. For a 4-star hotel, it’s disappointing. I can’t understand the rating when only the lobby really feels like 4 stars. “Premium” is only in the name; 100€ per night is too expensive for what you get.

The staff were extremely helpful, and the rooms were spotlessly clean. There’s lots of parking, which makes this a good fit for people with vans or motorcycles, and the location is very good. Breakfast had a very good selection. Outside could use a refresh: parts of the car park have broken concrete, and a drain leaked from time to time. Apart from that, it’s excellent for the price.

The view from our room was good, and we enjoyed exploring the village. We even made a quick trip into Spain to see the snow-covered mountains. My husband and I took the N2 road trip to Chaves and stayed at this hotel. I’d expected a large hotel, but found it very nice and friendly, with a great room, good service, and pretty good food. Thanks to everyone for a pleasant visit. We hope to come back. Andy and Annette Campbell March 2025

We only stayed one night while travelling onward, but I’d use this place again. It was comfortable and pleasant, with a spacious lobby, comfortable beds, and a nice seating area on the big terrace. The location is easy to find and close enough to cafés and restaurants. The price was reasonable, and the off-street parking was plentiful at this time of year. The restaurant menu looked nice but was quite pricey, and I didn’t try the food. The bar was pricey too.
