Carlos was a wonderful host and even gave us rides to and from the train station, going out of his way to help us feel comfortable. The room was spotless and had a stove, oven, cooking utensils, dishes, washer, dryer, and AC. It’s in a great spot, about a five-minute walk from the centre of the lower tourist district. Highly recommended.

Carlos, the owner, made us feel welcome from the start. He was very friendly and picked us up at the train station when we arrived. We stayed in the studio apartment, which was spacious, spotless, and had exceptionally comfortable beds. It’s just five minutes uphill from the main pedestrian street in the old town. We’d gladly stay at Casas da Alegria again when we return to Coimbra.

The owner is lovely and easy to communicate with, and the place is clean, fully equipped, and in good working order. The washing machine and dryer were a nice surprise. The one problem was the hot water, which kept coming and going unpredictably.

Carlos was a friendly, helpful host and even offered to collect us from the train station. Just be ready for the hill on the north side of the street, it’s around a 10-15 degree slope, so bring decent walking shoes.
