The bedding was exceptionally comfortable, and the well-equipped rooms had lovely views. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere stayed welcoming throughout. Breakfast was light but enough. We did run into a few problems during our stay, though they were outside the hotel’s control. Management handled them with real care and professionalism. The front desk team made a particular effort to keep us comfortable, and everyone we met was courteous, attentive, and personable. We had a very enjoyable stay, and I’m grateful to the whole team for the service.

The room was clean, and the towels were very good. They also provide bathrobes and slippers. Breakfast was served in the room and was basic but acceptable, though eating without a table or chairs was uncomfortable. There was nowhere in the bathroom to set out toiletries, and the Wi-Fi was slow and kept dropping. The staff were kind and polite, but the jacuzzi takes up a lot of the room. After two nights, I didn’t feel the room was worth what I paid, so I wouldn’t recommend the hotel.

The room door wouldn’t close, let alone lock. Staff told us it was fine because nobody else was staying on our floor. The toilet was even worse for us: it sat beside the bed, inside glass walls, with no door or privacy from the rest of the room. The place didn’t look like its photos or description. The pictures seemed nice, if a bit kitschy, but in person the decor felt tacky and cheap. There was cheap glitter on the furniture, and I didn’t want it getting on my clothes or luggage. The hotel was also dirty and smelly. We didn’t like anything about it. Solar Antigo Luxury Coimbra was a huge disappointment and a low point on our road trip across Portugal. I don’t know how Google calculates hotel stars, but this should be rated 1, not 4.5. The ratings and description don’t reflect what we found. It felt like a scam, with fake reviews and ratings making it look like a kitschy jacuzzi hotel. Don’t stay here. I hope scam hotels like this die, and I’d tell anyone to stay elsewhere.

After walking up and down hills for days, that jacuzzi was so relaxing I could barely get out. The room was cool and clean, and parking was really easy. There are lots of restaurants and bars just below the hotel, and the staff had good suggestions. We had an early check-out for a morning hike, so the woman at the front desk packed sandwiches, water, and drinks for us to take along.
