The grounds are beautifully kept, and the whole place feels incredibly peaceful and comfortable. It’s the sort of stay where you can properly relax and recharge. There are hammocks with solid, comfortable support that make you want to doze, and a small but cozy lounge in the main building that connects to some of the rooms and the breakfast room. The setting is lovely, with olive trees and grapevines stretching as far as you can see. The rooms are all different, and each one is fantastic, with its own outdoor seating area leading to one of the two pools. There’s also a Jacuzzi, though we didn’t try it. Breakfast was just right: scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, cold meats and cheese, fresh fruit, warm croissants, cereal, orange juice, bread, jams, and coffee from the espresso machine. There was also a fresh pot of drip coffee with big mugs, which was a nice touch for anyone who likes a proper large coffee in the morning.

A peaceful, quiet place with a bit of luxury. We stayed in the romantic suite, where it was so quiet you couldn’t hear a thing. The suite had a bubble bath, and the pool was lovely with a great view. It gets really hot in the daytime, but the pool helps. Great for couples with a car who want to relax and enjoy good wine at a good price. There’s a really good restaurant about 15 minutes away, with good food, wine, and service. We brought wine back to enjoy in the bath with relaxing music. Five out of five for me, and I haven’t given that rating before.

The surroundings are amazing, and the location worked perfectly for a city break. The facilities were comfortable and thoughtfully designed. The staff were really friendly, and breakfast was lovely, with fresh local products. I really enjoyed my stay at Monte do Mato dos Homens and would definitely recommend it.
