Hotel Vila Galé Collection Elvas

The suite was comfortable and well equipped, though a little sparsely decorated. Parking was easy, and the hotel is close to the old town sites. We liked the charming bar and had a nice breakfast. Elvas is beautiful, and I'd happily visit again.

We liked the place enough to add a second night. The staff were attentive, helpful, and charming, and we enjoyed a drink in the attractive atrium, with the rest of the building all around us. A beautiful, comfortable hotel with plenty of atmosphere and history. Thanks for such thoughtful hospitality!

The city, hotel, and scenery are gorgeous, but service and amenities felt like 2-3 stars at most. I don't know how it got four stars, unless it's for the beautiful historic building and surroundings. Parking was a matter of luck: reception offered no help, so you drive around hoping to find a spot, then walk back to check in. We left April 11 and were told the whole hotel was on “central air,” with no AC available at that time of year. The only options were the heater or an open window. For a four star hotel at about $300 a night where AC was advertised, I expected more. Reception had no fans either. The open windows were okay until local kids drove around in circles blasting car speakers, and the lovely birds began singing at 0200 while we were trying to sleep. There was just one place to refill a water bottle, at reception, from a pitcher, and there was no water in the gym. Half the room's outlets didn't work, maybe that's what you get in a hotel about 700 years old. Reception spoke English, but that was about it. Hope you get an air-conditioned stay if you come here.

The only thing we really missed was an iron in the room. We bought two irons and ironing boards for the family's needs, then donated them to the hotel for future guests ♥️. Our family and friends, more than 100 people, stayed for three nights last week for a family wedding. We were told ours was the first Indian wedding group hosted there. The rooms were spacious, clean, and had all the amenities. The kids all enjoyed the nice pool, and breakfast was a generous spread of hot and cold options, served in the cafeteria from 7 - 10:30 am. Staff were professional and courteous. We'd definitely stay here again when we're next in Elvas, Portugal.
