GiG Capsule Hostel

Staying in one of the cabins felt like having a peaceful, comfortable little private room. The hostel itself is cozy, welcoming, and very clean. The couple who run The Gig Hostel are genuinely warm and made us feel at home right away. Even when the unexpected blackout happened, they clearly cared about everyone’s wellbeing and did what they could to look after us. I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone after a kind, homey stay in Ericeira.

The terrace is pleasant, but with only two chairs it wasn’t easy to spend time there with other guests. Inside, the common area is too small for more than two people to use the kitchen at once. For up to 12 people or more, two showers and toilets feel sparse, there’s nothing to dry your hands with, and the showers are always sandy. My private room was a four-person bunk room with one bed closed off, and there wouldn’t have been room for four people with luggage larger than backpacks. It was okay for what it is, but some attention to detail seemed to be missing.

The owner was really nice and made the stay even better. I didn’t have my ATM card, so I Revolut-ed him the money and he gave me cash, which was amazing. I also left my power bank behind at checkout, and he posted it to my home in Ireland. The hostel is very clean and feels safe, the beds are comfortable, and there’s a locker for your things. It’s really close to the beach too. Five stars from me!

The owner was amazing, so kind and always willing to help with whatever you need. He can even arrange a surf school for you. Add a cozy atmosphere and a perfect location, and this is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in. Such a special place!
