Mar Puro

Mar Puro is around a 10-minute drive from Ericeira, so you get a peaceful countryside setting while staying close to town, the ocean, and surfing. The whole place is beautiful, from the wood and sculpted waves at the entrance to the relaxing outdoor areas overlooking the pool and countryside. The heated pool is unusual in the area and especially handy for kids who might otherwise get cold. The rooms are spacious, bright, tastefully decorated in soft colors and a minimalist style, well equipped, and each has a private terrace. The breakfast and restaurant area also has lovely details that subtly bring the sea and waves to mind. From the start to the end of my stay, I was impressed by the mix of high comfort, sustainability, exclusivity, and thoughtful details.

We felt comfortable here from the moment we arrived and really enjoyed our stay. M‘ar Puro has so much heart and soul, with care and a distinctive quality evident in every detail. The local owners have each contributed their own style, giving the place an authentic, special atmosphere. Thank you especially to Carolina and the whole crew for creating such a beautiful place!

We spent a lot of time by the pool, which was lovely when the weather was warm, especially since the kids didn’t want to leave. The water is heated, and the bar serves salads and sandwiches that make good light meals for the day. Smoking isn’t allowed anywhere on the property, but people seem to ignore the signs, so those signs need to be bigger. The huge balcony was a nice spot for board games, reading, or just looking at the trees. Nearby there are grocery stores and good restaurants, around 5 to 10 minutes away by car. If you cook dinner yourself, you can stay on the property, as the restaurant is only open until 6 pm. There’s a decent kitchenette in the room, and the team is young and casual but very willing to sort out any problems. They clean the room while you’re out. Beaches are about 10 minutes away by car. This is a lovely, quiet, unpretentious place. It worked well for travelling with kids: you can close the bedroom door, and the extra double bed folds into the wall during the day. It had the same mattress, textiles, and comfort as the bedroom bed. I also liked seeing Portuguese brands and local craftsmanship throughout, including Castelbel amenities, handmade wooden tables and chairs, and outdoor furniture from local artisans. We’ll definitely return.

Mar Puro made a great base for a week of surfing near Ericeira. The place is brand new and built to a high standard, with a lovely pool and cabins. It had everything I needed. Wonderful.
