Villa Ana Margarida Hotel

They made us feel at home here. It’s one of the best places I’ve stayed in Portugal.

The hotel is right in the center of Ericeira and only a five minute walk from the beach, which made it easy to get everywhere. There were parking spots around, though we usually left the car in a large free lot about 10 minutes away. We didn’t want to try the city center, with its narrow streets and lack of free spaces. Our room was above the main entrance, so loud conversations outside woke me in the middle of the night, even though I usually sleep deeply. You could also hear restaurant guests in the inner courtyard in the evenings. The room itself had a tiny wardrobe, twin beds instead of a double, one dark curtain and no light shades. On the plus side, the small hotel was very cozy and the staff were super helpful and friendly. We were given everything we needed and more, including a beach umbrella from one of the receptionists for our whole stay. Breakfast was included and substantial, though the same food was served all six days. We still enjoyed it, especially taking coffee to the upper terrace for its views of Ericeira and the ocean. Remember to carry your own cup up, as there’s no rooftop service. The service was excellent: our room was always clean, and they kindly did our laundry when we asked. We’d consider other places in this chain on future trips to Portugal.

There are amazing restaurants within a block, and the hotel is central yet quiet while still close to everything. It’s impeccable and, by far, my favorite hotel in Portugal. This is my home whenever I’m in Ericeira.

We found a fantastic spot in Ericeira for brunch. The food was delicious, and the staff were lovely. The outdoor courtyard is charming, and the decor throughout has a special feel.
