The room had no minibar or even a bottle of water, and my WhatsApp request for water went unanswered. The TV was broken. From the bed, the view was toilets on one side and people doing yoga on the other. The gate was broken too, leaving us stuck for 15 minutes and late for the dinner we’d had to book elsewhere. We chose Sense of Ofir partly because dinner was offered on-site, given how remote it is. When we arrived, we were told it was fully booked, with no one having asked beforehand whether we wanted a table. We were simply told to find food elsewhere. The welcome was a sharp “you can’t park here,” with no hello or smile while we were hauling heavy suitcases. I briefly thought it was another guest being rude, but it was a staff member. Her colleague said she was rushing off to the beach. In the morning, there was no greeting either, just “you can’t sit here, this table is for four.” Five minutes later, two people were seated at that same table. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels across continents and at every price point, and it wouldn’t be fair to compare Sense of Ofir with places that offered hospitality. This felt like an obstacle course where guests are a nuisance and comfort is optional. The staff member who “welcomed” us and “looked after” breakfast should find another industry, any other.

The restaurant was a highlight for me. Everything I tried was superb, especially the duck rice. The hotel is beautifully designed and sits in a lovely spot between the beach and a lagoon. I’d come hoping to surf, but the currents were strong and the waves huge that time of year, so we mostly stayed in the white water. Still, it was nice to get out, and the instructor was a really nice guy. I was there with my partner and our two small children, and we all had an amazing stay. From the moment we arrived, the staff were professional, friendly, and did everything they could to make us comfortable. We felt at home straight away and are already looking forward to returning.

The brunch was delicious, and the yoga session was brilliant. The surroundings are incredible, and everyone on staff was so friendly and welcoming. Rute is a wonderful teacher, definitely do a session with her when you visit.

We spent a wonderful week at Sense of Ofir. It’s such a peaceful spot, and the staff were always smiling and really kind. The location is gorgeous if you’re into kitesurfing. The food was good at breakfast, lunch, and dinner too. Special mention to the caipirinha ☀️

The setting is lovely and quiet, and the beach sunset is spectacular. The rooms and common areas are cozy and modern, but for Portuguese standards it didn’t feel worth the price. We paid €80 for dinner, which was two starters, a cheese plate, and a bottle of wine, and the restaurant felt expensive for what you got. Asking for a sangria with less ice got us a jar full of ice for €20. The pool was closed, and there was no information about that anywhere. If we’d known, we would have gone somewhere else. Breakfast was fine, nothing special. The place presents itself as super cool, but in the end it felt focused on money.
