The mussels with potato and the tender stem broccoli were standouts, though everything we tried made us want another bite. O Gadanha uses very local ingredients in inventive combinations, matched with sensational wines. The staff were impeccable, and the meal left us feeling uplifted. It’s one of the best dinners we’ve had, and Alentejo dining at its most captivating. The restaurant deserves a Michelin star. There are also rooms and a pool. Thank you so much.

I was cycling around Portugal in November 2017 and spent a night at O Gadanha. My room was spacious, looked out over the square, and was very nice. The location was handy too, with several lovely restaurants no more than a five-minute walk away. The front desk staff were excellent, helpful, and spoke very good English. Great place to stay, highly recommend!

The rooms were clean enough, and the location and free parking were good. The food looked fine on the surface, but the service depended on who you dealt with, ranging from awful to acceptable. The husband was hostile about giving me a tax receipt and nearly shouted as I walked away. His wife eventually made him issue it, though he protested. Breakfast was dreadful, the coffee was rancid, and I would have spent my money elsewhere.

I liked staying right in the town center, where I could see the local sights before continuing south to the Algarve. It’s a great budget hotel for a night, and the staff were friendly.

The hotel was nice, but check-in at 15:00 is too late. It should be no later than 13:00.
