There’s a lovely lake nearby, and the setting in the middle of the forest is beautiful. The cottages were once part of a watermill village, so the scenery is especially picturesque, with waterfalls right outside the windows. They’re spaced far enough apart for privacy, and each has a balcony or veranda with garden chairs and a barbecue. The kitchen has everything you need, the WiFi works great, and a nice breakfast comes with the rental. You can also book a table at the restaurant for lunch or dinner. The staff are lovely, someone is always at reception, firewood is provided, and pets are welcome. I’ll definitely be back.

The setting is really beautiful, and I’d recommend the PR4 walk around the lake. The houses aren’t especially comfortable, but they’re fine for a night or two.

The meal was a nice way to recharge after a day out. We tried the hake with clam rice, which was okay, and the grilled beef with baked potato, which was the real highlight, so tender and delicious, cooked just right. Aldeia do Pontido is a wonderful place to visit or stay for a day surrounded by nature. There are trees, the Viizela river, mills and trails in a landscape that feels almost untouched. There’s also a small restaurant serving home-style food. What an incredible day!

The landscape is lovely, with a river and waterfall. It’s a beautiful old village that’s been rebuilt, with a good restaurant and old houses converted into T1 and T2 lodges.

A great place to get out into nature on a hike with friends or family, even with little ones. Be sure to see the water cascades and mills.
