Hostellicious

My check-in was on Feb 3, 2026, in Room 101. I inspected the bed because I wanted to make sure the bug infestations mentioned in other reviews were in the past. Within 10 minutes, I found what I considered a severe infestation of live bed bugs and eggs. To me, the eggs indicated a long-standing problem that cleaning staff had ignored. Staff didn’t apologize. Instead, I felt they were trying to discredit me by suggesting I had brought the insects myself. Given that I found them 10 minutes after entering, and saw eggs, that seemed physically impossible to me. I considered it a shameful attempt to avoid responsibility. I say that despite the health risk and their own admission that the room needed disinfection, management refused to refund me. I believe they kept payment for a room that was legally uninhabitable. I had to file formal complaints with the Portuguese Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) against their parent company (Descontrair & Descansar Lda), and also complain to CIMAAL consumers conflict center of Algarve, just to be heard. I eventually got a refund through my booking agency, solely because I provided extensive photographic evidence. The hotel itself refused to return a single cent. The owner also tried to intimidate us, citing “EU diffamation laws” that supposedly should prevent us from posting reviews. My warning to future guests is that you risk bringing parasites home. If you complain, I felt management attacked my integrity instead of helping. Take pictures and ask for the “Livro de Reclamações” (official Red Book), which is your legal right. I would not stay here.

The owner even threatened us with a defamation lawsuit if we warned anyone about the unsanitary conditions. That says a lot about this place. We were there on February 3rd, and the hostel was filthy, with bedbugs. Management said the room needed disinfecting but still refused a refund, even though we couldn't stay. They should put their energy into laundry and pest control instead of legal threats. This place is a health hazard. Don't come here.

Hostellicious was a lovely place to stay, especially because it was so clean. The rooms and shared areas were well looked after, the staff were great, and the location was nice. I'd definitely recommend it. My room did get pretty hot at night, though, even with the AC display at 23°C. Could've been a technical issue, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

The staff were warm and helpful, especially Daniela at reception, and it was good value for money. There are loads of amenities nearby, with town, bars, and restaurants easy to get to. The hostel has a lively feel, with lots of big, practical communal spaces that make meeting other guests easy. I'd definitely stay here again if I were in faro.
