The Central Guesthouse

The location was the only thing I liked. I've travelled across Latin America and Europe, and this is the worst place I've stayed. The room felt like a prison cell, it was dirty, and mold covered the bathroom. There were cockroaches in both the room and bathroom. The Wi-Fi was poor, and the woman who welcomed us was rude. Our only window faced the hallway, and they left the light on all night, so it shone straight into the room. For the price, it felt like a scam. If it had been cheap, I could have understood the poor condition, but it was far too expensive. At least the AC in our room worked, though other guests may not be as lucky, judging by the other reviews. I'd give zero stars if I could.

We stayed overnight so we could take our niece to the airport for an early flight. The room had a large terrace looking over the cafes, the AC worked beautifully, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was less impressive, with inexpensive fixtures. Staff were welcoming, and the place really is central, with cafes, markets, and culture all around. There's free parking a few blocks away by the church. It was a good value and a great stay, and we'd come back for longer.

The staff were prompt and kind, and the location felt secure, with easy entry and exit. There was storage in the room, and hot water came through almost instantly. But after a 2 night stay in this "Guesthouse" with someone accompanying me, I wouldn't return unless the accommodation improves. Dust had built up in many parts of the room, and one drawer had garbage in it. The bed was very noisy, with an old mattress. With the bed and nightstand in place, the closet drawers couldn't be opened because the right door wouldn't swing all the way. The old AC couldn't cool the room even when left on all day. It took a lot of insisting, including calls to the owner and saying I'd write in the complaints book, before the shower support was installed. Until then, you had to hold the showerhead yourself. The shower space was tiny, and the curtain kept touching me; by the end, the whole bathroom was wet. The toilet paper was very poor quality, and there was only liquid hand soap.

I booked through the official website, then waited about 8 mins at the ground floor entrance while calling on WhatsApp with no answer. I found another guest, waited at the reception desk on the 1st floor, and kept trying WhatsApp. After another 5 mins, they arranged a room. We were put in room 7, with a window facing the corridor. The room looked extremely different from the website photos: old beds, a rusty bathroom, and a bad smell. Customer service said there was no other room. It was a nightmare, and I wouldn't recommend this guest house.
