Stone Farm Hostel

The staff were good!

The room smelled awful and the cleanliness was terrible. There was no air conditioning as advertised, just a small electric space heater, and the room didn't even have its own bathroom or toilet. Breakfast was appalling: one croissant for two people, plus two rolls and a small butter biscuit, with no jam. I can't say there was anything positive about the place, and I really don't recommend it.

We rented the whole venue for our sports team while we were in the area for a tournament, and it worked well for a large group. The owner was friendly, helpful, and flexible about breakfast times, though that was possible because our group were the only guests then. Some things, like the furniture and bathroom fixtures, aren't state of the art, but everything was clean and worked.

The photos are misleading, and I can't recommend the place for its service or cleanliness. We booked through Hosterworld, whose app showed check-in at 2:00 PM, but after watching several stages of the WRC rally and sleeping in a tent, we arrived exhausted and were told by a rude, bad-tempered man that check-in wasn't until 4:00 PM. He said it wasn't his problem that the app hadn't updated. He wouldn't let us use the common areas, so we were stuck in the sun and heat in the middle of nowhere for two hours. We didn't want to make a scene, just shower and rest, and by then we couldn't cancel. The rooms looked nothing like the photos must have when the place first opened. Everything was filthy, with squashed cockroaches on the door frames and a bathroom worse than a campsite. We'd booked a private room expecting a private bathroom, but it was outside the room at the end of a short hallway. The pool was dirty and green, and the interior walls looked best left untouched. We slept fully dressed, using our own towels on the beds so we wouldn't touch anything. We were too tired to drive home, but left in the morning without breakfast.
