Laje da Bica Agroturismo

We went for two weeks at the end of winter and into early spring, and the villa stayed comfortable without us needing to switch on the heat. It was well insulated, and we could leave the windows open for the crisp air. Inside, everything worked well for a temporary home: a very comfortable bed and couch, bathroom toiletries, a stocked kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, and a dining table that doubled as a work desk. The glass doors slide open to join the inside with the terrace, with an incredible view over the corrals, valley, and mountains. We spent plenty of time watching the birds and taking in the scenery. Armando and Americo have made a modern, luxurious property where adults can get away from city stress. The villas sit apart from the main house, so there’s privacy, though Armando still greeted us each morning with a big smile and a basket of fresh local treats. That was a lovely way to start the day, and it never got old. We work remotely and have traveled around Portugal, but haven’t found another private stay we could compare with Laje da Bica. We brought our small dog, who lounged in the sunshine on the terrace and made friends with the owners’ dogs. I love animals, so visiting the bird sanctuary and horse livery was a daily highlight. There were ducks, geese, chickens, horses, and dogs. Stalls can also be arranged in the stable if you’re traveling with a horse. Covilhã is a short drive away for shopping or meals, and Monsanto, a historic medieval village, is about an hour away. We also enjoyed the pool, dramatic sunsets, and those spectacular lenticular clouds. The property is a rare retreat, and Armando and Americo are wonderfully genuine hosts. Photos don’t do it justice. We loved our time there and wish we could have stayed longer.

The service and upkeep were excellent, and the setting is beautiful. A really original, creative place to stay, and very welcoming to animals.

Such an amazing place!

The peaceful surroundings and open view of the Serra made it easy to switch off from the stress of the city. The accommodation was comfortable, and breakfast arrived each morning in a basket, clearly prepared with care. We wanted to make the most of every moment. Mr. Armando welcomed us warmly from the start and made us feel at home. His kindness and hospitality made the stay even more special, and our four-legged companion was treated warmly too. Laje da Bica was a memorable escape, with lovely service and a breathtaking landscape. We recommend it, and we’ll be back very soon! :)
