Carmo Country Villas

La Mirante sits right in the village, surrounded by greenery, and we could walk into town. The road around Sao Miguel made it easy to get to, though the slope up is steep. It’s about 20 minutes from Ponta Delgada and 25 from Moisteros. We loved the rooftop terrace, with its sea view and 360-degree outlook, plus the two little private gardens at the front and back. The villa itself is bright and peaceful, simply designed with care and local materials. A couple bought the old farmhouse, raised their children there, then built several villas across the landscaped grounds. Monica was a delight to meet, full of helpful advice and things to tell us. There’s a shared building with a lovely lounge, games, and a place to buy breakfast, but we made our own meals in the well-equipped villa. The pool was beautiful and open even after dark.
