Albergaria Dias

We had such a lovely holiday at Albergaria Dias. The welcome was warm, and we felt at home right away. We met the father and son who run the hotel, along with the reception and bar staff. It’s a great little hotel in just the right spot for us. Our room and bathroom were clean and fresh, and we had a sea view. Breakfast was a treat, with lots of fresh choices. There was some work going on nearby, but it wasn’t disruptive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it.

We stayed for a week and had a fabulous time. The hotel is in the old town, handy for restaurants, sights, buses, and other places. It and the pool are very pretty, with lovely, well-tended plants and garden. Our room, 202, was spacious but dated, kept very clean, and had everything we needed. The balcony looked over the pool and sea. Louisa welcomed us when we arrived, and she, the owner, and the rest of the staff were all very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was great, with plenty of hot and cold options, including fruit, cakes, and cereal. I’d happily stay again and recommend it to anyone after a smaller, friendly hotel.

We had such a fantastic stay at Albergaria Dias in June 2024 that we’d come back to Madeira just for this hotel. The simple rooms were well kept, with fresh sheets and towels, and we loved our balcony and its great views by day and night. We miss it. Breakfast and the food were brilliant, and the waiters were so attentive. On quieter days we liked taking a dip in the pool and staying near the Old Town. After exploring in the evening, it was lovely to walk back up the path and sit outside by the pool with a glass of wine.

Everything in Funchal is within walking distance from this very well located hotel. The rooms felt more like three stars than four, and breakfast was good, served in a pleasant spot by the pool. I rated it five stars because the staff are so friendly and attentive. We left a phone charger behind, and they called us just a few minutes after we’d left so we could come back for it.
