Casa Zona Velha -Caetano

The host, Rita, is warm and very helpful, and always available if a question or problem comes up. The apartment has everything you need, with a lovely little balcony, another balcony along its side, and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views. It’s right by the sea, next to the fort, the Barreirina bathing establishment, and the bar with the same name. The decor is a little old-fashioned, but that gives it just the right charm for me. The 1.60 m bed is super comfortable. The shower is small, but the water pressure is perfect and the temperature stays consistent, which I’ve not always found elsewhere. I also appreciated that the sheets and towels smelled like laundry dried outside, not dry cleaning. One thing to keep in mind: because of the stairs, the apartment isn’t suitable for people with limited mobility. Thank you, Rita!

We were welcomed so warmly, and I loved the stay. The location is excellent, close to the city centre, and you can walk to the market, the cable car to see senhora Monte, the botanical garden, the marina, and the restaurant areas without needing to use the car. The view is wonderful. Having breakfast or a snack while seeing and hearing the nearby sea is so relaxing. I recommend it 100%.

The apartment was clean, and the kitchen was very nice and well stocked. From the balcony there’s a wonderful ocean view. It’s close to bus stops and the beach in Funchal’s old quarter, and the owner is very nice. A great place, simply perfect. I highly recommend it, it’s really worth it, so come as soon as you can.
