Century House

The location is amazing, and the house could be a 5* property if the owners addressed the problems. The grounds are gorgeous, but every parasol was broken. We told the host, who brought another one; it was broken too, though more usable. During our stay, workmen used the garden to reach the building site next door and walked past while we were sunbathing and swimming, which felt uncomfortable. The house is run down and dated in places, with cracked paint, rotting bathroom skirting boards, and tired decking. Ants were all over the kitchen, so we had to keep all food in the fridge. WiFi was too slow and had poor coverage for working. Air conditioning was advertised, and controls were fitted in each bedroom, but they didn't work. We asked to move and were told that wasn't possible. The company reluctantly supplied fans the following day, which we had to assemble ourselves. One person in our party was pregnant, and the house was 27 degrees C the first night with all the windows open. Checkout was 10am. Since our flight home was at 7pm, the owners agreed we could stay until 4pm, then phoned to complain when we used the bathroom at 12.
