I had a great three-night stay in room #4 at jaca hostel. The room and jaca staff were amazing, and I really liked the food at the jaca cafe. No complaints at all, I’d definitely recommend it. If you’re coming from the US or Canada, remember to bring an outlet adapter.

The people were so friendly, and everything about this hostel was perfect for me. Breakfast was really good too 😋. The cafe opens a little earlier for hostel guests, which is a nice touch. I’d absolutely recommend staying here, and I’d come back.

The bunk beds are modern and roomy, with power plugs and everything I needed. I slept well, and the other travellers were lovely to spend time with. We chatted, shared our plans and some wine, tried a local maracuja fruit, and enjoyed the evening together. Jaca is a modern, friendly hostel with a café in central Funchal. I’d already stayed at their amazing sister hostel in Porto Cruz and loved it, so choosing Jaca was easy. It lived up to that experience. The self check-in worked perfectly when I arrived late at night, and the hostel is near the edge of the compact city centre. Most interesting places, including the waterfront, are just a short walk away. I found free parking across the centre, at the roadside, by searching for "Parque de estacionamento" in Google Maps, then walked about 10-15 minutes. In the morning I went down to the café to pay the guest tax and met the lovely, helpful staff. They offered to look after my bags so I could explore without carrying everything around. It’s a really nice place with a great atmosphere, though a bunk at around 40€/night is among the priciest I’ve paid at a hostel. They’re often full, so last-minute availability can be hard to find. Book as early as you can.

My friend and I had such a good time here. The hostel is spotless and in a great location, and the team are SO lovely. They gave us great recommendations and even took us swimming and out for drinks. It felt like being with family. Thanks again, we’d highly recommend it!

I wanted to meet people while travelling solo in Madeira, especially other hikers and travellers, and Jaca Hostel turned out to be even better than I’d hoped. I loved my five nights there. The atmosphere was great, the interior design and location were fantastic, and I really enjoyed meeting the other travellers. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. Jaca Café downstairs was a real bonus, particularly the delicious breakfasts. The owner was kind and helpful too. She suggested a wonderful Portuguese restaurant, where I had an amazing Espada com Banana, a local seafood specialty. See you next time, maybe in Porto da Cruz, Nat 🌟
