A clean, inexpensive place that suited me perfectly as a solo traveller. The host was friendly and helpful.

Madeira Rooms worked well for my first five days in Funchal. I found the room bright and airy, with balconies on two sides and a pleasant view. There was also a bowl of fresh fruit waiting for me, a nice touch. It had what I needed, including a little fridge, mugs, plates, cutlery, coffee, tea and sugar. Getting in was very easy. The key was in a secure lockbox outside the door, and the code arrived beforehand, so 24-hour arrival was possible. That was especially useful for anyone getting in late or early. The building is older, so sound carries. I could often hear the neighbors, though they were considerate, and the wooden floors creak. Street traffic was manageable over the weekend but more noticeable on weekdays, so noise-sensitive guests may want to keep that in mind. The location is a real plus. Cafes and restaurants are close by, and there's a cosy park with its own cafe a short walk away. The cathedral, waterfront and other central Funchal sights are only minutes away on foot. It's simple, but equipped with everything I needed for a first visit. The convenient check-in and location make it a good option for budget-conscious travellers, and I'd happily book Madeira Rooms again.

We found fruit, bottled water and wine in the room, which was a lovely touch. The room had its own bathroom and toilet, plus a small kitchen area. Towels are changed every three days and sheets every seven, and you'll need to bring shampoo since none was provided. The room was quite humid and didn't have much sound insulation. Still, the owners communicated very well, check-in was automated, and the location near the city centre was perfect. Great value for the price.

Everything we needed was there, and it was clean. Restaurants and other places were a reasonable distance away. It was perfect.
