Very affordable, honest place in Funchal, with simple, clean rooms.

I can’t remember staying anywhere worse. The place smelled awful and our room was horrible. The blankets smelled bad, the pillows were dirty, and the bathroom had a tiny tub, about two by two feet, to shower in. The receptionist was drunk when we arrived. Spend a few extra euros and stay somewhere else. Learn from our mistake.

There were five of us, and this was one of the worst experiences of my life. Later that evening, around 9:30, we returned to the accommodation and found the same two men, probably the owners, still in the lobby. They were completely drunk by then, and we felt very uncomfortable. Earlier, they’d been drinking and watching football, and were extremely unfriendly when we tried to find the exit. They shouted loudly until about 2 AM and smoked in the room next to ours. It was creepy, and we didn’t feel able to say anything because they seemed aggressive. A truly terrible experience.

The receptionist came banging on our door at 2 AM and tried to open it, shouting threats about calling the police. We’d managed to lock it from the inside. We tried to talk to him, but he kept shouting and threatening us. Eventually he calmed down and said “wrong room,” without apologizing. After that, we couldn’t sleep, and we didn’t feel safe. Earlier, we’d booked a triple room for two people but were given a double. At reception, I was told, “you only paid for two person so you can only have a double room.” I argued for a while, and he finally gave us the room we’d paid for. It was old, with ants on the wall. Rude, threatening staff and old, dirty rooms. Worst hotel or hostel of my life. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
