The place has a great atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, good prices, and a good location. Rooms were cleaned and towels changed every day. Breakfast was good, too, though the plates and cutlery were sometimes dirty. There were lots of ants in the rooms, and we found two cockroaches in ours, plus another where we were eating. It wasn’t a pleasant sight. It seems fine for a short stay if you’re on a small budget, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a longer visit or for anyone who prefers a higher standard.

It’s a very basic hotel, but the team made our stay worthwhile. Before we arrived, I asked for a kettle and fridge at no extra cost, and the safe was free as well. The rooms were cleaned every day. Shops and restaurants are close by, and we had a wonderful stay. Thank you.

We slept well even though the rooms looked a little dated. The staff were lovely, and everything was clean and tidy. Ask for a balcony room on the right side, away from the supermarket air conditioning, which can get noisy. Breakfast is good value if you’re happy with bananas. A very good budget stay.

The little pub opposite gets busy about three or four nights a week, usually Wednesday to Saturday, but it shuts at 1 a.m. and we weren’t bothered by it. Funchal centre is a straightforward walk, though at an easy pace it takes around 20-30 minutes; nearby buses make the trip quicker, and the 3-5 bus pass is well worth getting. There’s a supermarket next door, some other restaurants, and a souvenir shop for last-minute bits. We also liked the downstairs restaurant for its generous portions and inexpensive local dishes. Our room was fresh, clean and comfortable, with a handy small fridge for snacks and bread. Breakfast is included, and the staff are friendly. A good choice if you’re watching your budget.
