Vila Lusitânia

The location is very good, with shops and lots of restaurants nearby, but street parking is scarce. If you rent a car, expect to search around the area for a spot. The rooms seem old, the wardrobe had an unpleasant smell, and the mattress was the worst I’ve ever slept on. Service seemed fine, though we only needed support once or twice, so it’s hard to judge.

I booked the cheapest room, but that shouldn’t mean giving up basic cleanliness or comfort. The sheets didn’t feel clean, and the bathroom developed a strong bad smell overnight. Its door wouldn’t shut properly, so the odor spread into the room. Breakfast was very basic, and although the staff were okay, the stay was disappointing. I won’t return. My first room smelled strongly of damp and mold, so I asked to move. The second was beside the entrance, and its windows didn’t close properly. Even with earplugs, I could hear people coming and going all night, along with the doorbell, the automatic voice, and the door snapping open.

The garden and shared spaces are kept beautifully, and they made for a relaxing place to unwind after exploring Madeira. We also enjoyed the clean, cozy, well-equipped room, the simple but fresh and satisfying breakfast, and the swimming pool. From the poolside terrace, the ocean and city views are breathtaking, and it was lovely to wake up to them each morning. Guesthouse Vila Lusitânia is peaceful yet close to the heart of Funchal. From our arrival, the staff welcomed us warmly. They were kind, helpful, and always ready to assist with a smile. It’s a charming, authentic place to stay in Madeira. We’ll definitely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island. Obrigado, Vila Lusitânia, for a memorable stay!

We checked out the next day, but we’d prepaid, so we didn’t get a refund. The pool was small and disgusting, parking was barely available, and the location was bad. Our room smelled like something rotten, as if something had died in the bathroom. We arrived at 5, and the front desk lady seemed more eager to go home than help us check in. The service was abysmal. There are plenty of better places to stay in Funchal. These people have no business working in hospitality!
